seasoned sunflower seed spread

i <3 alliterations.

so i am SO BROKE RIGHT NOW. there is this website that you can type all the ingredients you currently have in your fridge/pantry and it will give you recipes to make. my pilot light is out, i am home alone, and i am too scared to stick my face in it with a lighter so baking is a no-go.

then i came across this sunflower seed & garlic spread recipe. that sounds interesting right?

  • 1 cup shelled salted sunflower seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled and separated
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 dash Tabasco sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 to taste more olive oil (if it is too thick for your taste)

well it isnt. the hot sauce & the cumin make a good flavor profile, but its just like sunflowerseed butter with for some reason i didn't have to foresight to prepare myself.

    a few things:
~that was my first time using my immersion blender as a food processor thingy. it couldn't handle the seeds (and i halved the recipe [THANK GOD]) so that is good to know...
~i know i am so embarrassed by the jarred garlic but there was barely any left & it expired in august 2010 so whatever. also there was only like a tablespoon so i threw a shallot in there.
~didn't have dry mustard so i used regular, like condiment mustard. i have no idea if that is a reasonable substitute.
~couldn't find tabasco so i just used a random one.
~i am not sure that i would actually eat the 'spread' with wheat thins, but they look good on the plate.
~i am not sure that i will actually eat it... unless i found an application where it isn't just like s.f.s.-butter... the author of the recipe mentioned using it as a rub/crust for meat products which i could see but i dont cook much like slabs of meat.
~oh and it took alot more oil (and i ended up adding water)

i am wondering if i can like turn it into a vinaigrette or something?? suggestions?

[p.s. i just threw it out]
